‘Lascaux, the international exhibition’ at Cap Sciences

A unique opportunity to discover the mysteries of Prehistory
The ‘Lascaux, international exhibition’ will be presented for the first and only time in the summer of 2025 at Cap Sciences before its world tour! It's a unique opportunity for all visitors to discover the wonders of the Lascaux cave and travel to the heart of Prehistory.
An immersive experience
This exhibition offers an immersive experience using life-size replicas and cutting-edge technologies. It plunges visitors into the heart of the Salle des Taureaux, renamed the ‘Sistine Chapel of Prehistory’ by the prehistorian Breuil. This somewhat ‘magical’ room is the defining feature of Lascaux and the ‘central’ element of this exhibition. It appeared to children one day in 1940, and the discovery of the Hall of the Bulls caused a worldwide artistic shock and revolution. It is the most monumental, the most powerful, the most emblematic, but also the most enigmatic of the Palaeolithic cave paintings known to date. Inside this room, an immersive video projection takes visitors on an initiatory journey into the subterranean world of Lascaux.
Numerous pieces to discover
The iconography extends over a length of 25m, with a total of 130 figures on the wall: 17 horses, 11 cattle (aurochs), 6 deer, a bear, the Unicorn and around 50 signs. The ensemble is dominated by the 4 large bulls. The exhibition also features 8 self-contained modules, from discovering the cave to protecting it, films, a model, reproductions and objects.
