Talk (in French) with the artist Jérémie Gindre to mark the publication of his book Pyramides de la Pampa by art&fiction, in conversation with Mirjana Farkas, research officer at Bibliothèque de Genève. This event will also be an opportunity to view original maps and documents from the Bibliothèque’s collections.
Pyramides de la Pampa is a book of images and text taking the form of an atlas. It was written and illustrated using documents drawn, for the most part, from the collections of the Bibliothèque de Genève. These historical sources have been reworked to construct the fragmented narrative of a foreign world, rekindling a taste for mystery and the unknown. A sort of grand journey through the library, this atlas guides us through the geographical imaginations of an era and a society, to better highlight the power of fiction. The maps, diagrams, comparative tables, vignettes and advertisements present us with familiar territories which yet seem here to be discovered as if for the first time, dominated by an exoticism that is both alluring and unsettling. Promising wonders and marvels as much as risks and perils, Pyramides de la Pampa describes and recounts a world that never existed, except in books.

Rencontre avec l'artiste Jérémie Gindre à l'occasion de la sortie de son livre Pyramides de la Pampa aux éditions art&fiction, en discussion avec Mirjana Farkas, adjointe scientifique à la Bibliothèque de Genève. Cette rencontre sera également l'occasion de découvrir des cartes et documents originaux issus des collection de la Bibliothèque.
Pyramides de la Pampa est un livre d’images et de textes qui prend la forme d’un atlas. Il a été écrit et dessiné à partir de documents provenant, pour la plupart, des collections de la Bibliothèque de Genève. Ces sources historiques ont été retravaillées pour construire le récit fragmenté d’un monde étranger, ravivant le goût du mystère et de l’inconnu. Sorte de grand voyage en bibliothèque, cet atlas nous guide dans les imaginaires géographiques d’une époque et d’une société, pour mieux en souligner le pouvoir de fiction. Les cartes, schémas, tableaux comparatifs, vignettes et réclames nous présentent des territoires familiers qui paraissent pourtant ici découverts comme au premier jour, dominés par un exotisme à la fois racoleur et inquiétant. Promettant monts et merveilles autant que risques et périls, Pyramides de la Pampa décrit et raconte un monde qui n’a jamais existé, sauf dans les livres.
