The MEG's Ciné-dimanches are back for a season based on three essential and current notions: decolonisation, gender and sustainability.
Documentary, fiction and animation films dealing with these themes will be screened free of charge in the Museum's Auditorium on several Sundays per month.
As part of the Filmar en América Latina festival, which runs from 18 to 27 November, the film Negra by Medhin Tewolde is being screened at the MEG.
"I was seven years old when for the first time someone in the street called me negra. At first I looked around to see who they were talking to, but then I realised it was me. That day I learned that I was black. Negra draws five portraits of Afro-descendant Mexican women. They testify about racism, resistance and acceptance, but also reveal their steps to overcome prejudice and celebrate their identity.
Director:
Medhin Tewolde Serrano, director, Mexico After training in film, Medhin Tewolde practiced the process of participatory filmmaking in Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. These experiences revealed her own identity construction as an Afro-descendant woman, which inspired her film Negra.

Les ciné-dimanches du MEG reviennent pour une saison autour de trois notions essentielles et actuelles: la décolonisation, le genre et la durabilité.
Des films documentaires, des fictions et des films d'animation abordant ces thématiques seront projetés gratuitement dans l'Auditorium du Musée plusieurs dimanches par mois.
Dans le cadre du festival Filmar en América Latina, qui se tient du 18 au 27 novembre, le film Negra de Medhin Tewolde est projeté au MEG.
« J’avais sept ans quand pour la première fois quelqu’un dans la rue m’a appelée negra. J’ai d’abord cherché à qui on parlait, avant de comprendre que c’était à moi. Ce jour-là, j’ai appris que j’étais noire ». Negra dessine cinq portraits de Mexicaines afro-descendantes. Elles témoignent sur le racisme, la résistance et l'acceptation, mais dévoilent aussi leurs démarches pour surmonter les préjugés et célébrer leur identité.

Après une formation en cinéma, Medhin Tewolde a pratiqué le processus de réalisation participative au Mexique, en Honduras et au Guatemala. Ces expériences lui ont révélé sa propre construction identitaire en tant que femme afro-descendante, source d’inspiration pour son film Negra.
