The Sisyphus on the dunes
For having defied the gods and wished to deceive death, Sisyphus was condemned to roll a rock in Tartarus to the top of a hill from where the stone would inevitably descend before reaching its goal. With the wish to modernize this myth, the performance exacerbates the notion of executioner and victim. The gods – here the sand blasters – use military and authoritarian behaviour. The Sisyphus – here the pickers – do all the grueling work following the condemnation. These ancestral issues can be found in our current society where everyone. e can become Sisyphus or God for various reasons and under any kind of hierarchy. Do we wish to be the one who suffers? The one who martyres? Booking on:
