Spain, 1936. Alfonso Garcia Reseco, 17 years old, uncompromising republican and antifascist, joins the republican army. He will fight with conviction and determination but in the face of Francoist military superiority he will suffer, with rage in his stomach and immense pain in his heart, defeat and exile, the loss of his Republic and his homeland. Moved from concentration camps to work camps, an act of resistance will send him to the German Bagnes in Siegburg where he will only survive by miracle. This living testimony vividly depicts what these men lived through, treated as 'the dregs of the earth'.

Espagne, 1936. Alfonso Garcia Reseco, 17 ans, républicain et antifasciste intransigeant, s'engage dans l'armée républicaine. Il combattra avec conviction et détermination mais face à la supériorité militaire franquiste il subira, avec la rage au ventre et une immense douleur au cœur, la défaite et l'exil, la perte de sa République et de sa patrie. Déplacé de camps de concentration en camps de travail, un acte de résistance l'enverra au bagne allemand de Siegburg d'où il ne survivra que par miracle. Ce vivant témoignage dépeint avec acuité ce que vécurent ces hommes traités comme « la lie de la terre ».

Spanje, 1936. Alfonso Garcia Reseco, 17 jaar oud, compromisloze republikeins en antifascist, sluit zich aan bij het republikeinse leger. Hij zal met overtuiging en vastberadenheid vechten, maar in het gezicht van de Franse militaire superioriteit zal hij lijden, met woede in zijn maag en immense pijn in zijn hart, nederlaag en ballingschap, het verlies van zijn Republiek en zijn vaderland. Verplaatst van concentratiekampen naar werkkampen, zal een verzetsdaad hem naar de Duitse Bagnes in Siegburg sturen, waar hij alleen door een wonder zal overleven. Deze levende getuigenis geeft levendig weer wat deze mannen doormaakten, behandeld als 'de dregs van de aarde'.
