Because actor-creator Davide Brancato believes in the power of pop culture, he saw in Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen's legendary hit - troubling echoes of his own personal journey. With his lyrical sensuality, Freddie Mercury sings of the destiny of an individual trapped in his solitude: ‘Open your eyes, look up to the sky and see: I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy’. Pauvres garçons tells the story of a young man born in the heart of the Jura, in an environment governed by rigid traditions, a boy whose entourage expects strength and virility. Defining the patriarchal diktats allows him to redefine himself in this rural context, and, in the course of his quest, to forge his own profound identity. What does it mean to be a man today? What if you weren't born a man, but became one? This solo explores questions of gender, identity construction, social construction, nocturnal confession, day and night, beginning and end, through words, music and the body.

Parce que l’acteur-créateur Davide Brancato croit à la puissance de la culture pop, il perçoit dans Bohemian Rhapsody – tube légendaire du groupe Queen – de troublants échos avec son parcours personnel. Avec sa sensualité lyrique, Freddie Mercury chante la destinée d’un être piégé dans sa solitude «Open your eyes, look up to the sky and see: I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy». Pauvres garçons raconte la trajectoire d’un jeune homme né au cœur du Jura, dans un environnement régi par des traditions rigides, un garçon dont l’entourage attend force et virilité. Défier les diktats patriarcaux lui permet de se redéfinir dans ce contexte rural, et, au fil de sa quête, de se forger son identité profonde. C’est quoi être un homme aujourd’hui? Et si on ne naissait pas homme, si on le devenait? Ce solo explore les questions du genre, de la construction identitaire, de la construction sociale, de la confession nocturne, du jour et de la nuit, du commencement et de la fin au travers des mots, de la musique et du corps.
