Two days of workshops dedicated to scientific writing in environmental sciences facilitated by EDP Sciences for Université Paris-Saclay researchers and PhD students

The Lumen Learning Center Paris-Saclay organizes two days of workshops dedicated to scientific writing in environmental sciences, on November 2019, the 12th and 13th. These workshops will be facilitated by EDP Sciences publishers, for University Paris-Saclay researchers and PhD students in environmental sciences (biology, plant ecology, environment, climat, ...).

Workshops schedule :

The workshops will all be in English.

DAY 1 -

9:30-12:00: Morning session: introduction to scholarly publishing

9:30-9:45 –General introduction, practical information (Julien Sempéré, Lumen Learning Center).

Publishing strategy, journals and conferences, choosing a journal, bibliometrics…

Coffee break (15 min)

FAIR data – data papers

Ethics, writing and structuring your article, designing effective figures

Promoting your article

Quiz and Q/A session.

12:00-13:00: Lunch break

13:00-16:00: Afternoon session: writing effective abstracts

Peer-review etiquette, why writing a good abstract is important, abstract structure and tips.

The group will review together all the abstracts submitted in advance by the participants.

Coffee break (15 min)

Participants will re-write their own abstract based on the feedback received from the group.

Sharing of results, feedback

16:00-17:00 Visit of a research laboratory (TBC).

DAY 2 -

9:30-12:00: Morning session: editing – example of published article.

Introduction. Peer-review etiquette.

For the first exercise, we will use a published article as material for review. In small groups, participants will review the first submitted version of the article.

Sharing of results, feedback.

12:00-13:00: lunch break. Editing - participants’ articles.

For the second exercise, participants will review unpublished articles from other participants.
