Cité de l'Espace

Nothing happens as it does on Earth! Come and discover the extraordinary life aboard the International Space Station.

An initiation into the strange life of an astronaut on a mission in space.

The new ASTRONAUTS exhibition at the Cité de l’Espace allows us all, young and old alike, to explore the extraordinary everyday lives of astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS), a craft that makes a full orbit of the Earth every 1h30 at a height of 400km with 6 astronauts on board. In a weightless environment everything is different; normal everyday actions need to be reinvented and relearnt. Space is a very particular environment that unbalances all the senses and functions of the body.

Astronauts have multiple tasks to accomplish during their scientific mission and so must quickly adapt to their new habitat. They also enjoy moments of relaxation in this small and cramped space with unbeatable views of planet Earth!

The Cité de l’Espace is offering its visitors the chance to familiarise themselves with this new life, which is far removed from our normal day-to-day, thanks to this new ASTRONAUTS exhibition.

An exhibition in which astronauts guide the visitors: in order to get even closer to the life of astronauts on a mission.

Astronauts nowadays can share their space missions directly with the general public thanks to social media. Every day, photos and videos provide evidence on the astronaut’s very own accounts. Each of them presents their own vision of their mission and often provide some incredible and unusual images of earth as seen from outer Space. The distance between us and the astronaut is reduced. In this vein, the Cité de l’Espace’s new exhibition establishes the most direct contact possible between the astronauts and the general public. Employing some very original facilities they can show the general public the strange day-to-day lives they live in Space. This interaction is simple and the astronauts can present their profession and how they work in this unusual environment.
