The Cemetery of the Forgotten is a burial place located in the commune of Cadillac, linked to the history of the psychiatric hospital. Created in 1923 to house the bodies of soldiers of the 1914-1918 war, who had been interned, traumatized by the fighting and who died in Cadillac. It is one of the very few testimonies of a subject unknown in the history of France: the status of these combatants damaged by the war, the forgetfulness of «these broken mouths», of these «mutilated of the brain».
The project to upgrade the Cemetery of the Forgotten of Cadillac, was launched on November 11, 2018 at the initiative of the President of the New Aquitaine Region. This site was opened for the first time after its restoration on the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2020.
