"Rendezvous in the gardens": Franz Friedrich FRONIUS and his botanical garden Agnita/ Agnetheln in Transylvania
"Let us remember together, let us take advantage of the present and look to the future"
Botanist and folklorist Franz Friedrich Fronius was one of the personalities most appreciated by the Transylvanian elite of the 19th century.
Endowed with a great sense of observation, he succeeded in acquiring a thorough knowledge of the rich local flora and in publishing many articles about it. He is actively involved in community life and wins the souls of the parishioners entrusted to him during his pastoral period!
In 1868 Fronius was elected parish priest of Agnita and continued his fruitful work there. First, he completed the construction of the confessional school begun by his predecessor G. D. Teutsch, equipped the school with the best teaching material and managed to move one of the vocational schools created by the University of the Saxon Nation to Agnita. In addition, F. F. Fronius has set up the most beautiful school garden in Transylvania, and his knowledge and experience in botany and horticulture have been invaluable to him. In recognition of his extraordinary service to the schools of Agnita, the citizens of the city, at the suggestion of the teachers, laid a memorial stone in this school garden, which has survived to this day!
