The CWGC perpetuates the memory of 1.7 million Commonwealth soldiers from both world wars. To address the disproportionate number of casualties, the Commission relies on a global network to address war graves, cemeteries and memorials in 23,000 locations in more than 150 countries and territories. In addition to its duty of commemoration, the CWGC is responsible for the recovery and documentation of fighters during incidental discoveries in France.
