Debate: From Policy to Practice
The Reality of Indigenous Rights in the Americas
Indigenous communities have been facing persistent challenges, from the legacies of colonialism to the battles for recognition and protection of their human rights, worsened by the environmental impact of their lands’ exploitations. Indigenous women have played a pivotal role for the self-determination of their peoples, even at the international level.
This discussion will explore the conditions of Indigenous people in the Americas and inclusive pathways for a future where human rights are upheld.

En 2019, durant onze jours, 23 femmes indigènes venues de partout en Argentine occupent pacifiquement le Ministère de l’Intérieur. Elles dénoncent le terricide, les assassinats et les nombreux crimes impunis que subissent leurs communautés. Malgré l’indifférence gouvernementale et médiatique, elles se battent pour dénoncer un système basé sur l’oppression, se faire entendre et montrer leur force et leur résilience.
