The Kominas: punk and muslims
A night dedcated to the Taqwore movement: debate, movie and concert

Taqwacore. This surprising word comes from the encounter of two universes : ‘Taqwa’ means threat of God in Arabic and ‘Core’ comes from hardcore.
And that’s how is born the Punk Islam !
This concept was invented by the writer Michael Muhammad Knight, an American converted to Islam, in his book The Taqwacores, published in 2004. There were already muslim punks before the book but it reunited them and helped them find their identity. As so, the book has become some kind of manifesto of the taqwacore movement, which is now considered as a new musical tendency.

Taqwacore. Ce mot étonnant vient de la rencontre de deux univers :
« Taqwa » signifie la crainte de Dieu en arabe et « Core » vient du « hardcore ».
Et de cette rencontre est né le punk Islam !
Ce concept a été inventé et développé par l’écrivain Michael Muhammad Knight, un américain converti à l’Islam, dans son livre The Taqwacores publié en 2004.
Il existait déjà des punks musulmans avant la parution du livre mais ils se sont retrouvés dans cet ouvrage, qui est quasiment devenu un manifeste de leur identité, provoquant la naissance d’un nouveau courant musical.
