Ancienne église Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines
12 place Saint-Pierre, 31000 Toulouse
This historic Toulouse building of first order reveals an exciting and unprecedented chronological stratification in a place that is today dedicated to music and dance. The descent of some steps involves the visitor in a sudden ascent in time, in the 4th century or at the beginning of the following century. While the bishopric of Toulouse was established and established to the east of the city, a first church, with funerary vocation, was built in the heart of a necropolis, to the north, on the edge of Garonne. At 30m in length, it was to have dimensions comparable to those of the first contemporary Saint-Sernin church. Thus, at the end of antiquity, they met in this church to commemorate the deceased, whose tombs invaded all the surrounding space and even the heart of the nave.
