Come and discover amazing and inspired works, but also the journey of three men who, without artistic training, managed to realize their dream by embarking on creation. In this way, they were able to deliver universes full of poetry and emotion to everyone… Guided tours of each site will be offered, as well as time for exchanges and debates on this theme, with parallels and comparisons with other sites identified as part of the operation of inventory of the heritage of landscape inhabitants of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, operation conducted by the Heritage Service and Inventory of the Region.
On the agenda:

  • 9h30-10h: bus ride to the Jardin de Gabriel (Nantillé)
  • 10h-12h: visit of the Jardin de Gabriel
  • 12h-12h45: bus ride from the Jardin de Gabriel (Nantillé) to the Maison de la Gaieté (Chérac)
  • 12h45-15h: visit of the Maison de la Gaieté and meal on site: possibility to bring your picnic or book your meal delivered and prepared by the restaurant of the guinguette La Cabana of Dompierre-sur-Charente (starter-main-dessert at 20€ and starter-main or main-dessert at 15€ - reservation required before Wednesday, September 18)
  • 15h-15h30: bus ride from the Maison de la Gaieté (Chérac) to the Musée de Loulou (Genté)
  • 15h30-17h: visit of the Loulou Museum by its creator, André Degorças
  • 17h-18h: return trip by coach to Saintes train station
This day will allow you to discover 3 exceptional heritage sites created by self-taught artists:
  • The Gabriel Garden, garden of 420 reinforced cement statues created by Gabriel Albert from 1969 to 1989
  • La Maison de la Gaieté, café-cabaret-dancing decorated with mosaics by Ismaël and Guy Villéger from 1937 to 1952
  • The Loulou Museum, a collection of stone and cement statues by André Degorças, from the 1960s to the present day
Program realized in partnership with the Maison de la Gaieté.
