Created in 1939 under the name of «Centre social familial du Limousin», the establishment is established in 1970, in the historic district of the City, in the premises of the former monastery and boarding house Saint-Joseph de la Providence.
The congregation of Providence was born in the seventeenth century and its mission is to welcome and educate orphans. Shortly after the Revolution, the congregation acquired the former house of the Sisters of the Cross, rue de la Cité. Following the 1905 law on the separation of the Church and the State, the congregation gradually weakened and then disappeared. In 1965, the bishop of Limoges proposed to the Institut Social Familial Ménager to settle in the premises now unoccupied.
