With République, photographer Bérangère Fromont captures youth and resilience on the Place de la République in Paris. It highlights a generation that navigates between history, politics and everyday life, and illustrates the duality of a place of revolts, demonstrations, but also calm and passive resistance.
On the fringes of processions, speeches and other forms of direct resistance, the artist observes another way of inhabiting the square. Skaters, in particular, embody another type of resistance, more diffuse. By appropriating urban space and diverting the elements that compose it, they give it another face, infiltrate interstices, invent new uses.
Bérangère Fromont offers a visual reflection on multiple ways of being in the world. It explores the presence of the body in space, light and the relationship of the individual to his environment. Place de la République appears as the fragmented portrait of a city that navigates between revolt and peace.

The exhibition will open on Friday, September 18, 2026, during an inauguration evening open to the public.

at 7 PM – Quiet brouhaha, sound performance by Maycec This piece takes as its starting point the Place de la République in Paris, a space full of social memory, where the apparent calm still contains the echo of crowds, conflicts and speeches.

Avec République, la photographe Bérangère Fromont saisit la jeunesse et la résilience sur la Place de la République à Paris. Elle met en lumière une génération qui navigue entre histoire, politique et vie quotidienne, et illustre la dualité d’un lieu de révoltes, de manifestations, mais aussi de calme et de résistance passive.
En marge des cortèges, des discours et d’autres formes de résistance directe, l’artiste observe une autre manière d’habiter la place. Les skateurs, notamment, incarnent un autre type de résistance, plus diffus. En s’appropriant l’espace urbain et en détournant les éléments qui le composent, ils lui donnent un autre visage, s’infiltrent dans les interstices, y inventent de nouveaux usages.
Bérangère Fromont propose une réflexion visuelle sur de multiples manières d’être au monde. Elle explore la présence du corps dans l’espace, la lumière et la relation de l’individu à son environnement. La place de la République apparait comme le portrait fragmenté d’une ville qui navigue entre révolte et paix.

Met République legt fotograaf Bérangère Fromont de jeugd en veerkracht vast op de Place de la République in Parijs. Het belicht een generatie die tussen geschiedenis, politiek en dagelijks leven navigeert en illustreert de dualiteit van een plaats van opstanden, demonstraties, maar ook kalm en passief verzet.
Aan de zijlijn van processies, toespraken en andere vormen van direct verzet ziet de kunstenaar een andere manier van wonen op het plein. Skaters belichamen een ander soort weerstand, meer diffuus. Door zich de stedelijke ruimte toe te eigenen en de elementen waaruit het bestaat om te leiden, geven ze het een ander gezicht, infiltreren de interstices, verzinnen ze nieuwe toepassingen.
Bérangère Fromont biedt een visuele reflectie op meerdere manieren om in de wereld te zijn. Het onderzoekt de aanwezigheid van het lichaam in de ruimte, het licht en de relatie van het individu tot zijn omgeving. De place de la République verschijnt als een gefragmenteerd portret van een stad die tussen opstand en vrede navigeert.
De tentoonstelling zal op vrijdag 18 september 2026 geopend worden tijdens een openingsavond die open is voor het publiek.

Om 19:00 – Rustige drukte Geluidsprestatie van Maycec dit stuk neemt als uitgangspunt de Place de la République in Parijs, een ruimte vol sociale herinnering, waar de schijnbare rust nog steeds de echo van menigten, conflicten en toespraken bevat.
