The castle’s historic gardens are located within the medieval walls. They are attested at least since the end of the eighteenth century, when one evokes the «Grands jardins», but their creation undoubtedly goes back to the moment when the castle becomes purely residential (late fifteenth-early sixteenth century)The wooded park located to the north and immediately outside the enclosure was created at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, on plowing land, in the locality La Folie. Today, the ensemble forms a remarkable ensemble with its old plantations and trees: Atlas cedars, Virginia tulips, red chestnuts, purple beeches, Byzantium hazel, Siberian elms, etc. Finally discover the contemporary rose garden, planted in the fashion of the French garden, with its 400 roses and perennials, pergolas and cozy benches. In the company of the Municipal Green Spaces and Heritage Department, come and discover the historical and botanical richness of this exceptional site, and its daily management: dare your questions!

À propos du lieu

Parc du Château
Hôtel de Ville, Le Château, 37110 Château-Renault
  • Indre-et-Loire
  • Centre-Val de Loire
The park is divided into three parts(parties): a big(great) environmental court(yard), the old(former) gardens and the new rose garden, and a sported park. The set(group) is included in the field of the old(former) castle of Castle-Renault (XIIth, XIVth, XVIIth, XVIIIth century). The old(former) gardens are the most old(former) elements (attested at least from the XVIth century).
The big(great) gardens and the new rose garden They are done up inside the surrounding wall(speaker), in the northeast angle of the rampart. An expertise of 1795 evokes: " (…) a big(great) garden training(forming) several quarrés around whom(which) there are several trees in espalliers and at noon(south) of this big(great) garden is an orchard in the shape of terrace, then of which orchard and at noon(south) of said ship above, is a big(great) large court(yard) in which are four rows(ranks) of lindens (…)». Their creation goes back up(raises) most probably to previous(former) time(period), undoubtedly at the time when the castle becomes purely residential in the course of the XVIth and XVIIth centuries, without ruling out(moving away) the hypothesis of one or several gardens done up from the Middle Ages. Today the big(great) gardens are partly crashed in kitchen gardens, and toponymy keeps(preserves) the location of the outside(terrace) orchard located down below, and which receives since 2017 the new rose garden!
The wooded park or «park of Madness» The wooded park is located outside the surrounding wall(speaker). It was crashed on lands of plowings in the turning point(bend) of the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries, in the place - thought Madness. The connection with the castle is made by a monumental portal(gate) drilled in the old(former) wall of surrounding wall(speaker). The count Louis Barrairon does up by 1800 an English garden, except the surrounding wall(speaker), in the oriental(eastern) end of the park. Throughout the XIXth century and in the first half of the XXth century, the north park is structured left framed(supervised) by a ramification of tortuous paths, the very crashing of rare trees for time(period), from which several remain(subsist) even today.
The esplanade The big(great) adjacent court(yard), old(former) poultry-yard medieval and qualified as "big(" great) green court(yard) " in 1795, it keeps(preserves) its role of e-mail crashed in lindens, in spite of the reduction in two rows(ranks), axis of plant connection between the strengthened door and the flight of steps of honour of the castle. Both cedars of the Atlas crashed in the South of the big(great) court(yard) are the monumental witnesses(batons) of this period.
