Gordes, medieval citadel village, faced the lack of space on the ground by the establishment of an underground life. While men lived on the surface, crafts developed underground. There is thus a gigantic network of cellars, sometimes more impressive than the houses located above. It is a remarkable example of the harmony between stone constructions and man-made rock.
After forty years of clearing, part of this network was reborn under the Palais Saint Firmin, a large Renaissance house. It contains traces of an ancient complex, intended in particular for the production of olive oil. The work required by the desire of the owners to share and live this exceptional heritage, was a challenge as important as that of reviving it.
The recently created garden has been terraced above the semi-cave cellars. It welcomes a typical Mediterranean vegetation (olive trees, lavender...) and offers a unique view of the Luberon valley.
It is open exceptionally during the Rendez-vous at the garden.
