Giardino dell'Ottone
Località Ottone
The garden of Ottone was founded in 1910 on the initiative of Dr. Giuseppe Garbari, in Ottone, in the municipality of Portoferraio, on Elba Island. The desire to create a "garden of acclimatization" on the Island of Elba is part of the genesis of a new botanical experience, which finds expression in a phenomenon that manages to combine cultural and scientific aspects in the reflection of one of the first Italian gardens of the 900\. Between the second half of '800 and the beginning of '900, in Italy the affirmation of the Art Nouveau style joins this new event, based on interest in exotic plants, thus leading to the creation of multiple gardens in various regional territories. Given the particular mildness of the climate of Elba and the close friendship and collaboration between Dr. Garbari and Prof. Giorgio Roster, the Giardino dell'Ottone today represents for the Tuscany region, a particularly significant place, both for its extension and for the great variety of exotic species prese
