Matisse «Outside the walls»
Designed to preserve, produce and study ornamental and ornamental plantations for the enjoyment of the senses or useful plants such as medicinal plants or edible crops, the garden inspires artists with its colors and composition. “Look, I made myself a little garden, all around where I can walk (…). There are foliage, fruit and birds.” said Henri Matisse to his friend and writer André Verdet. The gardens run through the entire work of the painter. They are for him places of walks: those of Issy-les-Moulineaux, the Villa Le Rêve in Vence or that of his friend Tériade in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. In this workshop, we offer aspiring artists and their families a walk in the painting of Matisse and in the gardens of the abbey in the form of a gouache cut around the motif of the garden rug.
