Since 1979, the town of Melle has built 6.5 kilometres of walking trails in place of abandoned railway stations located partly in the immediate vicinity of the old town. If in places the spontaneous vegetation embellished the course, some sections were bare and the mayor of the time, Jean Bellot, had the idea, since 1985, to accompany this path with native and exotic plants. The idea of collection and botanical path was born and since then, the plantations succeed each other on the Way of Discovery. This long journey takes you around the city and follows three circuits, called Fontaine des leppreux, Lavoir de Loubeau and Lavoir de Villiers. Two atmospheres hold particular attention: the Arboretum and the Garden of water and nettles.
