Free guided visit of the Bertenyi Miklos botanic garden
The garden offers a completely different view and a unique microclimate from the surrounding mountains. In the second half of the 1960s, the hornbeam, acacia and holm oak stands were replaced by stands of spruce, Douglas fir, larch and red pine, based on the work of forestry student Gyula Eőry. The work was first carried out under the supervision of István Mundi and later Antal Koncz, the district foresters. The area was later fenced off to prevent wildlife damage. In 1978, on the idea of Dr László Madas and Dr András Madas, the transformation of the area into an arboretum was started under the leadership of forest engineers Miklós Bertényi and Gábor Varga. Special ornamental species (flowers, autumn foliage colouring, etc.) were planted along the edges of the stands.
The arboretum can be visited under the expert guidance of Antal Koncz.
