Château et parc d'Azay-le-Rideau
19 rue Balzac, 37190 Azay-le-Rideau
- Indre-et-Loire
- Centre-Val de Loire
The Château of Azay-le-Rideau is built on an island in the middle of the Indre under François Ier's reign. Subtle alliance(wedding ring) of French traditions and innovative decorations(sets) come from Italy, it is an icon of the new art to build of Val-de-Loire in the XVIth century. His(her) successive owners contributed to make the architectural jewel the most harmonious of Val-de-Loire. In 1905, the State becomes an owner of the Château of Azay-le-Rideau. His(her, its) English-style park dates the XIXth century (7 ha). In the XVIth century, there is no park around the castle, but a closed garden which we contemplate since the windows of apartments. He(it) is surrounded by two arms of the Indre, tributary of the Loire. When Marquis de Biencourt acquires the domain at the beginning of the XIXth century, they choose to create a landscaped garden by 1825, convenient to offer new points of view on the charming beauty of the castle which is reflected in the water. The English-style park extends then in the swampy meadows surrounding. It is then clearly vaster that he(it) is him(it) today. Standing of exotic gasolines(essences), bald cedars of Lebanon, cypress, séquioas, tulip trees of Virginia or Ginkgo Biloba, he(it) gives a good place to the romantic walks in the greenery and the groves. The park, classified as "Historic Monument" in 1914, was the object of a vast programme of restoration(catering) in 2014.
