Exceptional visit to the gardens of the Abbey of Rangéval
Monasteries were preferably in solitudes. What better than a forest valley exposed to the north and therefore, with glacial relics (natural park)! It’s also a wildlife sanctuary where we were able to, for example, examine the officially extinct black rat twice. The defects of fences infiltrate the stomachs, more or less useful or harmful to the garden, whose sight or traces are pleasures of life.
From the Premonstratensians, we respect a tradition of fruit trees, regional or national (it is hardly the season at the time of the visit!). Their number has been increased to about 200 varieties including moderns, for example, jujubier, amélanchier or kiwaï. Among the native ornamental trees there are also about sixty exotic species, for example, Fababean, Osage orange, wellingtonia. The ornamental plants are essentially those of our great-grandmothers, those of the parish gardens that saved so many genes. Our despair is to see all that disappears, animals or plants, in nature and even conservatories.
The guided tour is made by the owners of the place, true enthusiasts of the history of fauna and flora.
Duration of the visit: about 3 hours
