After a presentation of the collection by a guide-lecturer, students will discover the remarkable architectures on the models using a booklet-game. We will talk about military buildings, but also civil and religious hidden (or not!) in cities. Observation and curiosity will be required to meet the challenge!

À propos du lieu

Musée des Plans-Reliefs
Hôtel national des Invalides 75007 Paris
  • Île-de-France
Located on the 4th floor of the courtyard of honour of the Hôtel des Invalides, the Plans-Reliefs Museum preserves and presents a collection unique in the world: historical models of fortified cities and their surrounding countryside, made between the reigns of Louis XIV and Napoleon III, on the same scale (1/600th) and with the same techniques (wood, sand, silk, paper...). These models, tools of military strategy, were also an attribute of the prestige of the Heads of State. Today, they are an irreplaceable documentary source on the sites they represent and a valuable educational tool. Through these models (the largest of which is 56 m²), the visitor discovers a detailed three-dimensional representation of the cities, their buildings, their fortifications and the landscapes in which they fit. You will discover the face of Mont Saint-Michel at the time of Louis XIV or that of Bayonne at the beginning of the 19th century.
