Should I stay or should I go? How Alpine plants are avoiding (or not) the clash of global warming

The Alps are hit particularly hard by global warming. Christophe Randin presents the changes in alpine flora, a real indicator of global warming.

Christophe Randin

In this presentation, our guest Christophe Randin, a specialist in plant biogeography, will first give us an overview of the reactions of subalpine forests and alpine vegetation to climate change in the Alps. He will then present the results of projections for the 21st century suggesting a rise in altitude of the forest limit and the threat of local extinction of Alpine species. He will conclude by showing the monitoring methods that can be used to better understand and predict the evolution of vegetation in the Alps.

This lecture is part of the Geneva Botanical Garden's "Conférences au vert" series.

On Thursdays from 6pm to 7.30pm, immerse yourself in the green atmosphere of the iconic Temperate Greenhouse, a picturesque setting for botanical lectures in total immersion! Renowned guests or in-house staff will share their knowledge with you and open up the debate.
