Geneva was cold, very cold. Yet in the 19th century, most scientists believed that the Earth had been warmer in the past. It was against this backdrop that Swiss scientists made a big splash. Drawing on their naturalist observations in the Alps, they played a decisive role in the development and international dissemination of glacial theory. Come and shiver with us back to the days when Geneva was under ice!

Est-il vrai qu’il y a vingt mille ans le glacier du Rhône recouvrait notre région ? Oui, absolument!
A Genève il faisait froid, très froid. Pourtant, au XIXème siècle, la plupart des hommes de sciences pensaient que la Terre avait été plus chaude auparavant. C’est dans ce contexte que des scientifiques suisses firent grand bruit. Fort de leurs observations naturalistes dans les Alpes, ils jouèrent un rôle déterminant dans l’élaboration puis la diffusion internationale de la théorie glaciaire. Venez frissonnez avec nous au temps où Genève était sous la glace!
