MEG's Sunday movies continue for a season around three essential and current notions: decolonisation, gender and sustainability.
Documentary, fiction and animation films addressing these themes will be screened free of charge in the Museum's Auditorium on several Sundays each month.
The MEG is once again partnering with the FIFDH to screen a film as part of the festival.
Film: Colette and Justin by Alain Kassanda
African of Congolese origin, Alain Kassanda retraces his family history and that of the Belgian colonisation of the Congo, then its independence. In this intimate film, he succeeds in placing the major political events that have marked the history of the Congo by using historical and family archive images, the memories of his grandparents and accompanies the story with a poetic voice-over. This film questions the double view of colonization and immigration, from the point of view of those who lived through it and who inherited it.

- Alain Kassanda, director of the film.
Born in Kinshasa, Alain Kassanda left the DRC for France when he was 11 years old. After studying communication, he started organizing film screenings, and festivals in Parisian cinemas. He then became a programmer for an arthouse cinema in the suburbs of Paris, and then moved to Ibadan, Nigeria, from 2015 to 2019. There he directed Trouble Sleep, a medium-length film focused on the world of the road from the perspective of a cab driver and a tax collector. The film received the Golden Dove for best short film at the Dok Leipzig festival in 2020 and the special mention of the jury at the Visions du Réel festival. This was followed by Colette et Justin, a feature film intertwining family and the history of the decolonization of the Congo, in international competition at IDFA in 2022.

Les ciné-dimanches du MEG continuent pour une saison autour de trois notions essentielles et actuelles: la décolonisation, le genre et la durabilité.
Des films documentaires, des fictions et des films d'animation abordant ces thématiques seront projetés gratuitement dans l'Auditorium du Musée plusieurs dimanches par mois.
Le MEG s'associe à nouveau avec le FIFDH pour la projection d'un film dans le cadre du festival.
Film : Colette et Justin d'Alain Kassanda
D’origine congolaise, Alain Kassanda retrace son histoire familiale et celle de la colonisation belge au Congo, puis de son indépendance. Dans ce film intime, il réussit à replacer les grands événements politiques qui ont marqué l’Histoire du Congo en utilisant des images d'archives historiques et familiales, les souvenirs de ses grands-parents et accompagne le récit d’une voix off poétique. Ce film interroge le double regard de la colonisation puis de l’immigration, du point de vue des personnes de celles et ceux qui l'ont vécu et qui en ont hérité.

Né à Kinshasa, Alain Kassanda a quitté la RDC pour la France à l’âge de 11 ans. Après des études de communication, il se lance dans l’organisation de projections de films et organise des festivals dans des cinémas parisiens. Il devient ensuite programmateur d’une salle de cinéma d'art et d'essai en banlieue parisienne, puis s’installe à Ibadan, au Nigéria, de 2015 à 2019. Il y réalise Trouble Sleep, un moyen métrage centré sur l’univers de la route, appréhendé du point de vue d’un chauffeur de taxi et d’un collecteur de taxes. Le film a reçu le Golden Dove du meilleur court métrage au festival Dok Leipzig en 2020 et la mention spéciale du jury au festival Visions du réel. S’en suit Colette et Justin, un long métrage entremêlant récit familial et histoire de la décolonisation du Congo, en compétition internationale à Idfa en 2022.
