À propos du lieu

Villa Saint-Luc
202 Rue du Général de Gaulle 59370 MONS-EN-BAROEUL
  • Nord
  • Hauts-de-France
Created between 1908 and 1910, this "villa" prefigures the transition from Art Nouveau to the geometric Brussels Art Deco of Victor HORTA who opposes the Parisian floral style of Hector GUIMARD. It has kept most of its original character: stained glass, frescoes, moldings, parquet floors, cement tiles, marble fireplaces, chandeliers, carpentry, ...)
There is the eclecticism of Pagnerre, who throughout his career was a pioneer and innovator. Several styles rub shoulders here: that of the seaside villas of Malo-les-Bains (Dunkirk), the bourgeois houses of the Second Empire and the geometric art nouveau of Victor HORTA with a touch of the floral art nouveau of Hector GUIMARD.
In the 1980s, this magnificent project by the northern architect Gabriel PAGNERRE almost disappeared into the clutches of a developer who wanted to demolish it to create access to a natural space where he planned to build several residences!
