A leading figure in contemporary Argentine cinema, Lisandro Alonso has created a body of work that is both contemplative and haunted by horror. Whether in big-budget fables (Eureka and Jauja, featuring Viggo Mortensen) or in the austere framework of a realism of which he has been the champion (La libertad, Los muertos, Liverpool), he remains a filmmaker of precision and rigour, not to mention the grace of landscapes studded with symbols.
