Saint-Acheul was the seat of a famous Augustine abbey, founded in 1085 on the presumed tomb of Saint Firmin the Martyr, evangelizer and first bishop of Amiens, who would have founded in this place the first Christian sanctuary Amiens and suffered there the martyrdom in 287\. The abbey, rebuilt in the seventeenth-eighteenth centuries, remained until 1790 and became under the Restoration a college of Jesuits, closed in 1830\. It is currently occupied by a private school. The abbey church, now a parish church, was rebuilt in the years 1750-1770\. It features a sober architecture in cut stone, classic style. The facade has a semi-circular door surrounded by pilasters with capitals of Tuscan order. Upstairs, a bay and niches are arranged between pilasters with capitals of Doric order. These support the triglyph entablature, on which rests a triangular pediment. Under the choir, a vault occupies the place where the body of Saint Firmin was miraculously discovered. There are several sarcophagi and bas-reliefs from the 15th century relating to the history of Saint Firmin.
