The Town Hall was built between 1769 and 1771, as part of the development of the Place d'Armes by Blondel. It replaces the Palace of Thirteen, where municipal power was previously exercised. An additional wing, added between 1785 and 1788, makes it the largest building in the square.
Its facade, 92 meters long, is punctuated by nine arcades and two foreparts surmounted by pediments. Before the Revolution, these were adorned, respectively, with the arms of the king of France and the city. On the facade, under the inscription 'Hôtel de Ville', we can still distinguish, engraved in stone, the name of the square at the revolutionary era: 'place de la Loi'.
Inside, the entrance opens onto a vast peristyle and a majestic staircase, adorned with a superb wrought iron ramp and two statues representing Justice and Prudence.
