As part of the "European Heritage Days", the association Pierre le Vénérable invited Christophe Vezon, author of the highly documented master’s thesis "The architectural realities of the building of the Sauxillanges Priory 12th – 15th centuries. Architectural evolutions and transformations.” During his lecture, the art historian will return to the history of the monastery of Sauxillanges during the 18th and 19th centuries. He will address the subject according to the three main paragraphs:
1. State of the priory in the 18th century: 1745 and 1790 inventories
2. Revolutionary successive sales
3. Consequences for the private and municipal land parcels.
This historical exploration will be organized in a building bearing witness to this eventful period, the former Cluniac Chapel "Notre-Dame du Bois". Currently open to the public under the name of Maison du Patrimoine, it has been private and used for many purposes over many years.

The Heritage House is an excellent starting point to understand the history of Clunisienne and more broadly the history of Sauxillanges. Former Chapel of Notre-Dame du Bois, it is part of the many buildings of a complex architectural ensemble, which corresponded to the imposing Cluny priory founded in the 10th century and which continued to grow until the 15th century in Sauxillanges. Originally in the Romanesque style, the Notre-Dame du Bois Chapel was rebuilt in the 15th century, thus in the Gothic style. It then stretched between the space reserved for the prior and the cloister space, a few meters southeast of the priory church. Sold many times during the revolutionary and post-revolutionary periods, it was used for many uses: estaminet, stable, fabric factory and dwelling house in the nineteenth century. It is then that its appearance is heavily altered by an elevation of two additional levels and the addition of a balcony on the north facade. The interior space is divided in two

Accès

Access to the old Chapel is free. Sauxillanges is not connected to Issoire by public transport. A parking lot is nearby. Access to the ground floor is direct and possible at PMR, however not on the floors. Access to the garden level and garden is also possible but more complicated (heavily inclined access ramp)
