The DRAC Grand-Est/ Conservation of Historical Monuments, the Departmental Archives of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the Libraries of Nancy join forces to make discover to the public the hidden medieval treasures of Nancy. These unique objects, of exceptional craftsmanship and international renown, remain sometimes unknown to the Nancéiens. They will be exhibited at their respective conservation sites:

  • At the cathedral: the Evangelist of Saint Gauzelin, Bishop of Toul (10th century)
  • In the library: the cameo of Nancy, which adorned the reliquary of Saint-Nicolas-de-Port (1st century)
  • In the Departmental Archives: a diploma of Charlemagne concerning the priory of Salonnes (8th century)

The construction of the current cathedral began in 1703 according to the plans of the architect Giovanni Betto, changed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart. It is about one of the rare cathedrals built in the classical period the facade of which presents characteristics and balance. At the crossroads of the transept, a dome is decorated with a fresco devoted to celestial glory, realised by Claude Jacquart. The master(teacher) altar of polychrome marble is of 1763, stalls were drawn by German Boffrand. Big(Great) organs they was rebuilt in 1861 by Cavaillé-Coll, are listed(classified) in conformance with(for) historic monuments. The cathedral makes the object of a classification(ranking) in conformance with(for) historic monuments since August 9th, 1906 itself.
