Prison Hennequin
1 bis rue Hennequin, 10000 Troyes
The former Hennequin prison has a very rich history.
Since the thirteenth century, the convent of the Cordeliers was installed on its site. It consisted of conventual buildings, a church, to which was added in the fifteenth century the chapel of the Passion which will house, in the seventeenth century, the first public library of Troyes. Following the seizure of the buildings and the sale of its furniture in 1792, the Directory of the department installed its house of arrest and justice. The church was demolished in 1803 and expansion and rehabilitation works were undertaken and completed in 1834\. The Maison d'Arrêt replaced the convent of the Cordeliers.
Witness of the most tragic periods of our contemporary history, it closed its doors in December 2023 for a future reconversion.
