The volumes of «Antiquity explained and represented in figures» (1719-1724) by Bernard de Montfaucon (1655-1741) will serve as an introduction to a visit around engravings, drawings, shapes and decorations inspired by engravings. These documents taken from the library of Louis Vouland recall the role played by engraving in the knowledge and dissemination of forms, before the Encyclopedia, museums and photography.

À propos du lieu

Musée Vouland
17 rue Victor-Hugo 84000 Avignon
  • Vaucluse

The only museum of decorative arts in Avignon and its region, the Vouland Museum immerses you in the intimate atmosphere of a 20th century collector’s residence. Its remarkable collection of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries is presented in a mansion of the nineteenth century a few steps from the ramparts and the Rhone. The garden to the south, unsuspected street side, is a delicious haven to continue the visit, refuge of the League of Protection of Birds. The purpose of the museum is also to discover the arts of the region, past and present. The current exhibition is dedicated to the Avignon landscape painter Auguste Roure (1878-1936), known as «the painter of the garrigues and pebbles».
