Meeting with taxidermist Yves Walter in natural history collections.
Taxidermy carries an ambivalent imagination and provokes contrasting reactions among the general public. Between repulsion and fascination, what about the reality of this practice now very confidential and increasingly limited to the sphere of museums?
This meeting will make it possible to demystify this profession and to identify its sources. What contributed to the emergence of this practice – resolutely linked to the development of natural sciences and museum collections to become a tool for science? What are the technical developments that have marked this practice? What role do taxidermists play today in the knowledge, conservation and restoration and enrichment of these ancient collections?
Yves Walter has worked to preserve the Museum’s natural history collections by regularly working with them for about thirty years. The upcoming end of its activity is conducive to a time of exchange around these collections from different donors - both a delight for the public and a biological reference medium.
A meeting for young and old curious to discover this amazing discipline!
