On the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of the naturalist Jean-Henri FABRE (1823-1915), the REQUIEN Museum offers an exhibition that traces his life, his relations with different personalities and with Avignon. In the exhibition, there will be many specimens of the museum, as well as loans from other institutions. It will be an opportunity to realize in a pleasant way, that Jean-Henri FABRE was not limited to the science of insects, which made him known, but to all the natural sciences. The exhibition will open on the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2023, and will show that, after 200 years, this character between science and literature, remains a living source of inspiration and emotion.

The Requien Museum bears the name of its founder Esprit Requien (1788-1851) who, passionate about natural sciences, fine arts and knowledgeable bibliophile gave his collections to the Calvet Foundation to offer to his fellow citizens. The natural history collections, collected in Raphaelis de Soissans' hotel in the 1940s, now account for 1.2 million specimens. The Requien herbarium alone is estimated at 150-300,000 plants. Minerals, rocks, fossils, shells complete this historical and scientific collection where researchers find study material. Since then, the purchases of the Calvet Foundation and the City of Avignon, supplemented by donations from individuals or associations to either, have enriched this naturalist ensemble. On the occasion of occasional exhibitions, artists and visual artists find in these collections material to explain the world differently.
A sample of biodiversity from the past, the Requien Museum works to disseminate current knowledge. A permanent exhibition tel
