At the exit of Brem, towards the forest of Olonne, the village of La Gachère is an important old port named Havre de la Gachère and formed by the mouth of Auzance and Vertonne. Today, it is no longer active.
Until the 16th century, fishing was the main activity in La Gachère. Whale fishing was even practised there. At that time, this very typical small village with its narrow alleys and low houses whitewashed houses mainly houses sauniers and fishermen. Today, only a few oyster farmers live here. This natural treasure is conducive to walking and contemplation. You will also find the Gachère lock, which regulates water levels in the surrounding marshes. Two streams flow into the sea at this lock: the Vertonne and the Auzance which offer a mixture of fresh and salty water suitable for fishing. From the bridge, you will admire the superb view of the river Auzance!
