The squadron escort Maillé Brézé Naval Museum and Historical Monument since 1991 and one of the major elements of maritime heritage in Nantes .
Former Fleuron de la Marine Nationale , the Maillé Brézé is part of a series of 18 squadron escorts, type Surcouf, built in the 1950s.
With a length of 132.65 metres, a width of 12.70 metres and a draught of 5.80 metres, its full load displacement was 3,900 tonnes. Served by a crew of 277 men, including 17 officers, 100 petty officers and 160 sailors, its 63,000 horsepower enabled it to reach a speed of 33 knots with a range of 4,100 nautical miles (6,600 km).
