The development of aeronautical construction in Saint-Nazaire
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, Pierre Jacq, former engineer, invites you to a conference retracing the great times of the aeronautical adventure in Saint-Nazaire.
1923-2023: Saint-Nazaire and the planes
Pierre Jacq reviews the centenary history of aeronautics in Saint-Nazaire.
In 1923, 100 years ago, the launch of the construction of the giant seaplane Richard-Penhoët by the shipyard of Penhoët marks the beginning of a
aeronautical activity in Saint-Nazaire. Two years later, the shipyard of Ateliers et Chantiers de la Loire created a department for light aviation.
Over the years, with the post-war aeronautical programs, the supersonic program Concorde and the success of the commercial aircraft programs of Airbus, this activity has constantly developed.
Today, the historic sites of Saint-Nazaire and Montoir-de-Bretagne have become major players in the local economy.
By Pierre Jacq, former aeronautical engineer and member of the association «Je me souviens». The conference is followed by a convivial moment, around a pot offered by Saint-Nazaire Agglomération Tourisme.
