Lieu-dit Saint-Lézin - Congrier
53800 Congrier
When slate quarries were open-pit quarries and not mines, Saint-Lézin, patron saint of the Perrayeurs, celebrated February 13\. This small chapel on the territory of the commune of Congrier testifies to this devotion to the oldest protector of slate workers: Saint-Lézin, monk, then bishop of Angers, which, at the end of the fifth century, had discovered the fissility of slate and taught the workers how to exploit it. From this date, slate, which was only used as building material for the walls, was used in thin plates on the roof of the buildings. Saint-Lézin had his house covered with them.
