Eric Bourret offers 12 monumental installations at the towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes. The visitor gradually appropriates the work of the artist, during a slow and poetic journey, whose walk rhythm the discovery.
The original scenography is designed by the artist. It puts in tension medieval architecture and images posed, suspended, laid, and always monumental. Eric Bourret’s works tell the story of nature from here and abroad, open up perspectives on the surrounding landscape, surprise… But it is above all the deep plastic beauty and emotion that capture us.
The sea and the water - in immediate resonance with the history of Aigues-Mortes and its lagoon bordering the Mediterranean - constitute the main thread of the expo-promenade, revealing both the power of the narrative snapshot in the series «NO LIMIT» or «ZERO L'INFINI» or the lyrical abstraction of a material that questions the visitor in the series «PERPETUUM MOBILE» or «KOSMOS». Further on, you will be immersed in the vibrating scores of the «PRIMARY FOREST» or «ARBOS» series. Finally, Eric Bourret shares with us his view of the Camargue, in the photographs taken during his residency in January 2023, on this flat and horizontal territory, so far from the Himalayan mountains.

Founded by Saint Louis in 1240, to trade with Italy, the Orient and set off for the Crusades, Aigues-Mortes is the first port on the Mediterranean of the kingdom of France. Built on a marshy site, victim of silting, the city loses its strategic interest in 1481, when Provence is attached to the kingdom. When the Edict of Nantes was revoked in 1685, the ramparts housed in their towers, including that of Constance, the largest prison of the Ancien Régime for Protestants.
Focusing on the theme of water, the François Schneider Foundation has, since 2011, constituted a singular collection of contemporary works questioning the aquatic subject under different prisms. To extend the roaming of the Foundation’s collection, the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes invite the Foundation to create a poetic journey through the 15 towers of the monument, linked to the history of the port city. This walk, along the towers and ramparts will present generative drawing, blown glass abysses, piece of ocean, imaginar
