The monumental staircase, with its multiple ramps that follow each other, occupies the space of the courtyard. It is attributed to Louis de la Baume, the king’s attorney, and is today one of the most remarkable staircases preserved in Nîmes, resulting from a successful campaign of works.

Property of the Baume family, entrusted with many tasks by Louis XIV, this mansion dates from the 17th century. In the past, its main entrance was 9 rue des Orangers.
A whole wing of the courtyard is occupied by the spectacular stairwell, serving landings and flights of secondary stairs and overlooking a courtyard of honour. The landings have large arches with stone balusters.
Today, the building is a private 4-star hotel.
