David Rivet, a silk merchant and shipowner based in Cadiz, decided to retire to his hometown. In 1786, he had a sumptuous house built in Nîmes with neoclassical sobriety.
A sort of covered atrium adorned with four columns leads to a staircase of great elegance. Since 1987, the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Nîmes has been located in this building. The restoration undertaken on this occasion brought some touches of contemporary art, such as the mosaic of Bernard Pagès on the floor of the vestibule.
