Château d'Aramon

Overlooking the Rhône, Aramon enjoys an exceptional location in a particularly touristic region, between Avignon and Tarascon-Beaucaire. The castle dominates the old town of Aramon and the Rhône about ten km south-west of Avignon. The castle was built around a massive keep of the thirteenth century under Philippe le Bel and was part of the defense of the village then surrounded by ramparts of which we still see some traces. The village was then bordered by the Rhone. In 1464, the castle consisted of a house and a tower. Today only the tower remains: vast square surmounted by battlements and a turret, which dominates the country in the distance. The house has disappeared, but we can see some remains: to the east some arches that were part of the main courtyard and the foundations that give the current terraces a romantic character. A part to the north, sheltered from the ramparts, was brought up to date in the eighteenth century in a very pure style by the architect sculptor Bondon. It
