The sentinel of the Cévennes is the Cheylard d'Aujac. This medieval village was established in the 13th century in the upper valley of the Cèze, in the heart of the Cévennes, on a rocky promontory near Mont Lozère. Nestled at 600 meters above sea level, at the junction of Gard, Lozère and Ardèche, this castle, which is still inhabited today, offers an exceptional panorama. The castle of Aujac, with its square tower, its round tower and its drawbridge, illustrates the architectural evolution of castles, from medieval times to the Renaissance. At the foot of the castle is a farm that now houses exhibitions, screenings, a shop and occasional entertainment.
