Castle 15th-17th centuries. On a natural defensive site, settled in the eleventh century a first fortress of which there are only a few traces in the rocks. During the Hundred Years' War, it was occupied by the English, but the seneschal of Poitou besieged it and resumed it in 1435\. Stone balls of 100 kg attest that he had to use a mangonel (a kind of catapult) to obtain the surrender of the garrison. As soon as peace returned, a dwelling was rebuilt on the edge of the cliff and a staircase was added to it around 1500\. Ruined at the time of the wars of religion and abandoned, it was rebuilt in 1617 by its new owner, Jean de Conan, who encased it with two "pepper" scaffolds. A narrow terrace overlooking the void was added during the reign of Louis XIV.
