À propos du lieu

Château du Puch de Gensac

The castle has an architecture that testifies to the evolution of a stately residence from the 13th to the 17th century. The building, with a cruciform arch, is the only part dating back to the late 13th or early 14th century. In the 16th century, the original building underwent major expansion work with the construction of a large main building, the defensive west tower and the polygonal staircase tower. Observe the enclosure that follows the contours of the rocky promontory. A drawbridge gate tower gives access to the castle. In the 17th century, new buildings increased the volume of the main building; the west tower lost its role as a flank. In the 18th or 19th centuries, small outbuildings led to the creation of a small inner courtyard at the foot of the primitive castle. The two terraces preceding the house were established in the 17th or 18th century. The castle has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1994\. The fortress was established in the 13th, 15th and 16th centuries.
